FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my kitchen worktop sticky after application of Worktop Oil?

This is often because the worktop has not been cleaned with Wood Cleaner before it was oiled.  Wood Cleaner is deep cleaning, which allows the oil to soak better into the wood.

It may also be because it has not been polished after it was oiled and any excess oil wiped off. To achieve optimal results, please follow our job instructions for oiling.

How can I fix it?

Apply a thin layer of Worktop Oil to the sticky surface and leave to stand for no more than 5-10 minutes.
Next, polish thoroughly (ideally with a hand-held buffing machine) and wipe any excess oil off with a soft, clean cotton cloth.

Can I use ordinary cleaning products on my wooden surface?

We recommend that you use our specially-developed soaps when cleaning surfaces as they clean effectively, while also protecting and caring for them.

Regular cleaning products are not designed to work with the soap or oil treatment on your wooden surface.

Why should I use Wood Cleaner regardless of which treatment I have chosen?
Remember to use Intensive Wood Cleaner when your wooden floors, furniture or interiors need treating with soap, oil or stain.
Thorough preparation is worth the effort. But we all know the feeling that time sometimes seems short, and we therefore use shorter processes every now and then to get a fast result. But if you want to achieve the best-looking and most hard-wearing results on your precious wooden floor, exclusive wooden furniture, exquisite wooden tabletop or similar, do not take the easy way out.

WOCA Intensive Wood Cleaner has been developed to help you to achieve the best final result. You are doing yourself a huge favour if you prioritize a thorough cleaning of your wooden floor and other wooden surfaces before you treat them with soap, oil or stain.
How should I treat my wooden floors?
Floors are exposed to a lot of wear and tear every day. We constantly walk on them and drag a lot of dirt and grime in. Proper floor care is therefore crucial if you want to keep your floor strong and beautiful-looking, while ensuring that the work process is as fast and hassle-free as possible.
Your choice of regular floor care products is rather important. The individual floors and their surface treatments are important factors when choosing the right care products. WOCA care products and soaps are specially developed for cleaning and care of vinyl floors, laminate floors and wooden floors treated with soap, oil or lacquer; all to ensure optimal protection, a beautiful appearance and long durability.
How should I remove excess oil?
You should continue to rub an oil into the wood until the surface can no longer absorb it. Any excess oil remaining on the surface should be wiped off with a clean lint-free cotton cloth.  Remember that oil-soaked rags can ignite spontaneously. The cloth must therefore be put in a plastic bag, which must then be tied with a knot before being discarded in the rubbish bin.
Should I have my floor sanded before treatment?
For new base treatments, the surface should be sanded and cleaned before treating the wood with soap, oil or lacquer.  If the existing surface just needs a refresh, you can just clean it thoroughly with Wood Cleaner.  Remember to check whether there is enough surface remaining to sand before applying a new base treatment. If not, it may be necessary to invest in a new floor.
When is the best time to treat my wooden terrace?
Wooden terrace treatments are best applied in dry weather conditions, avoiding direct sunlight and strong heat. Optimal temperatures are + 15-25°C and approx. 50% humidity.
What outdoor temperature and humidity is recommended when oiling wooden surfaces outdoors?
Optimal application temperature + 15-25°C and approx. 50% humidity.
Should you measure wood moisture before application?
It can be a good idea to measure wood humidity. It should be max.15%. Many hardware stores have a moisture gauge in their product range, and they can be purchased relatively inexpensively. Wood that has been exposed to long periods of rain will contain a lot of moisture and should therefore also be allowed to dry accordingly.
Can you use outdoor products indoors?
No, we strongly advise against it as outdoor products contain stronger preservatives, which can be harmful to the indoor climate and to people.
What temperature and humidity should be maintained for indoor surface treatment?
This depends on the product and type of treatment. The various different recommendations are stated on each individual product.
Why perform intermediate sanding before the last coat of lacquer?
When lacquering a wooden surface with a water-based lacquer, the wood fibres will rise, and the wood will feel rough.  This roughness from raised wood can be removed by sanding the surface before applying the last coat of lacquer. This ensures that the surface becomes smooth and comfortable to the touch.
Can your Intensive Stain Remover be used on all types of wood?
Yes, you can, but always bear in mind that it will also remove some of the original protection, so you should re-treat the wood after using Intensive Stain Remover.
How long do your products take to dry?
There are different drying time recommendations depending on the product being used. The different drying and curing times are stated on each individual product.
What is the difference between Tannin Spot Remover and Wood Stain Remover?

Tannin Spot Remover is used to remove dark rings/stains caused by water etc.  These black rings/stains most often occur on oak because oak contains large amounts of tannic acid, which can be drawn up from the wood. The product can also be used for other types of wood, however.

The Wood Stain Remover is intended for stains like red wine, coffee and grease stains.  Common to both products is that the wood should be retreated with the original oil or soap after use.

Why should I use Master Care?
Master Care extends floor and lacquer lifetime, while protecting against wear and tear/scratches and making your floor more resistant.
